THE WAIT IN KUWAIT

Photographer Michael Mulvey and I arrived in Kuwait yesterday from Dallas via London. We're recovering from jet lag while the U.S. Army processes our paperwork. By tomorrow we hope to be on a military transport plane en route to Baghdad. We'll spend some time in the Green Zone, then depart for the Babil province to embed with units from the Fourth Infantry Division out of Fort Hood.

Our plan is to spend roughly a month with soldiers from Fort Hood and send back a stream of stories and photos that give a close-up look at their deployment in Iraq.

But for today, while we wait for the military bureaucracy's wheels to turn slowly, we're off for a walk around Kuwait City. More on that later.
